“Hoedown #1” for STRING ORCHESTRA

Hoedown #1 is a simple fiddle piece designed to introduce beginning string students to a variety of bowing patterns. The use of these bowing patterns helps develop good tone production early on. Part 1 utilizes only open strings. The mnemonic Suzuki phrases commonly associated with these bowings (Pepperoni Pizza, Run Pony, Mississippi) as well as Kodály counting syllables (Ta, Ti-Ti) are also included in the printed parts and score.

In addition to the simple Part 1, the optional Part 2 includes pentatonic fiddle figures that provide a complementary call-and-response texture to the piece. This more challenging part allows this piece to mature with your string orchestra members as they develop their technique.
